Hi there! Welcome to my E-Portfolio!
My name is Jacqueline Bernhardt and I'm a Senior at Grand Valley State University studying Elementary Education, English, and Theater. I am ecstatic to be sharing my e-portfolio with you as I complete school and prepare to have a classroom of my own.
I aim to include real-life experiences of my own and other community connections in the classroom so my students understand that their education is prepping them to be successful in the future. I believe it is important to incorporate movement and the arts into the classroom whenever possible. As a teacher, I strive to create lessons that include these elements in order to help engage my students.
I hope to utilize this portfolio to share my own unique lessons, as well as some of my favorite teaching strategies and methods. You can also find details on upcoming extra-curricular classes I will be teaching throughout West Michigan. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
Thank you, enjoy exploring!
Work Experience
Teacher Assistant, Orchard View Early Education, Muskegon, MI
In the Fall of 2013, I was placed in a first grade classroom for 15 weeks. During this time, I gained first hand experience in prepping and teaching a classroom. I assisted my cooperating teacher in copying and organizing worksheets, homework, and tests. I taught daily word work and math lessons (ADD/RDS). and also gave assessments in spelling, reading, and math. I frequently assisted in correcting homework and was responsible for many tasks that occurred each day. First Grade Reading Tutor, Sibley School, Grand Rapids, MI In September of 2012, I began tutoring various first grade students in reading, writing, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and other literary components. This was initially a requirement of my English 308 course, but I continued volunteering there throughout the remainder of the school year. Drama Counselor at Trail’s End Camp in Beach Lake, PA In the summer of 2011, I supervised a bunk of thirteen girls, all going into 6th grade, for seven weeks. I sat with them during all meals, was the one they went to if they had any problems, concerns, or missed home. I chaperoned multiple field trips and sporting events and participated in numerous camp activities. During that time I also assisted in running six theatre classes for age groups ranging from 1st-11th grade and helped direct eight different shows put on by various age groups at the camp. Due to summer classes, I sadly have not been able to go back to Trail's End for a full camp session. I was able to assist for a week in the summer of 2012 and was elated to be back. Director/Instructor, Broadway Boot Camp; West Michigan In 2009 I created my own program called Broadway Bootcamp. It teaches the fundamentals of singing, dancing, and acting through various scenes and songs from Broadway musicals. I've taught this program in multiple school districts throughout West Michigan for students in preschool through 12th grade. In many districts I teach additional classes including Acting & Improv, Youth Dance, Pom-Pom Dance, and Basic Cheerleading. |
